Our History
MCM Architects Inc. has a rich and distinguished history. Our firm's architectural legacy has been evolving for nearly 100 years.
The firm's origins can be traced back to Edgar Prain, who began practicing architecture in Winnipeg after immigrating to Canada from Europe in approximately 1908. In 1951, he officially established the firm under the name Prain and Ward. Through decades of growth, changing partnerships, and several name changes, the organization evolved into MCM Architects Inc., the firm's official name since 1987.
Over the years, MCM Architects Inc. (MCM) has earned a reputation for excellence that is respected and appreciated throughout Manitoba. Between 1950 and 1970, the firm completed more than 500 school projects across the province. Since 2005, that number has grown significantly, with the firm actively completing over 2,500 projects.
MCM takes great pride in the long-standing relationships it has built with school divisions, government officials, community organizations, and clients throughout its history. While educational facilities remain a cornerstone of the firm's expertise, its portfolio has expanded considerably to include recreational facilities, office buildings, childcare centres, First Nations projects, and many other building types.
Today, MCM continues to build on its legacy of service, innovation, and community-focused design, carrying forward nearly a century of architectural experience across Manitoba.
